I am an addict.

In the evenings, I have been without my computer for the past week. I have been letting Bethany use my MBP to work on several projects that are all coming to a head at the same time and her trusty Mac mini (G4) doesn’t quite have the speed she needs. While I could be using her computer, I find it very limiting to be stuck in one place while I work. Well, stuck in the wrong place at least.

So, because of my stubborn nature I’ve just gone without. In the mean time, I’ve finished several books and graphic novels, something that I’ve not had a chance to do recently. I’ve had some good alone time with my Wii. My new MyTunesRSS feed from my server to my Wii lets us listen to out *vast* digital library from the comfort of the living room.

I’ve even considered braving the heat of the attic to work in my music studio. But, overall without my computer I feel much less productive.

One irony is that it is not the computer it’s self. Any mobile computer would fill my need because as soon as I lose my Internet connection, my beautiful MBP instantly becomes much less useful. Gone are the days where all of my Applications and projects are housed within my HD. Now, nearly everything I do that relates to the computer is tied to the Internet.

I even have many real life projects even that are at least slowed down if not stopped by a lack of connectivity. As the ultimate reference library, I am constantly googling information to complete real world tasks. Who needs Bob Vila’s Do-It-Yourself guide when I can pick an choose from the best of the net?
So, even with the luster of the iPhone wearing off as Steve’s Reality Distortion Field begins to flicker I am still in love with it, if only for the fact of having constant connectivity. The price may be high, but I could stand to eat a little less…

I’ve given up on my job getting me a Verizon card for the MBP. Though it was vaguely promised, I knew it would never happen.

  1. Imagine my chagrin, stuck on month number 6 of a 24 month wireless contract with Verizon.

High price or not, I’m networked right out of the iPhone market. Now those damn commercials are hitting the air and it’s like salt in the wound.

Steve, why hast thou forsaken me?

  2. Every other word out of my mouth is “iPhone”. I cringe at the possible trainwreck that is building over the hype but I just can’t get the darn thing out of my head.
