Success! x0x #320

While this is a little (a lot!) out of date, I’m just as jazzed as ever when I play with this thing! While sifting through an older directory of pictures, I came across a few x0xb0x in progress shots! Its been finished for over six months now, but I haven’t had as much chance to play with it as I’d like.

However, I’m so proud of it, that the x0x has made it onto the title banner of this very blog!

For those who don’t know the x0xb0x is an amazing clone of the Roland TB-303 which is sold as a kit. It is as close, electronically, to a 303 without spending a few grand on a vintage one. Plus, you get the satisfaction of building it yourself. Add on top of that a few add-ons and improvements (“How can you improve on perfections!?!”) and it is an amazing bang for your buck. Sold in very small batches due to some hard to source parts, I had to wait about six months just to order the thing!

Much to Bethany’s chagrin I spent many a night after work over a hot soldiering iron. Section by section assembling, soldering and testing each component. I had even gone so far as to purchase a nicer soldiering iron for the project, which has come in handy for a few projects since.

Finally, after enough sleep deprived nights, the whole kit came together and I hooked it up to my Korg ER-1. Working like a charm, the x0x handled the MIDI sync on the first try.

My next project is to curcuit bend my Casio SK1.

View my x0xb0x Flickr set! (I’ll be adding more in as I find them!)
